Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to the questions we hear most often. If your question is not here, call or email us anytime.

1.What services does Myung Keon Kim CPA offer?

Myung Keon Kim CPA offers individual and business tax preparation, tax planning, bookkeeping, payroll processing, and IRS representation. We specialize in Korean-owned businesses, international tax (FBAR, FATCA), real estate investment, e-commerce, restaurants, and medical and dental practices. All services are available in English and Korean.

2.Do you speak Korean? / 한국어 상담이 가능한가요?

Yes. Our CPA is fully bilingual in English and Korean. Phone calls, emails, and in-office meetings can all be conducted in Korean. Tax returns and bookkeeping software are prepared in English as required by U.S. law, but all consultations and explanations are available in whichever language you prefer.

3.Where is your office located?

Our office is in Manhattan Koreatown: 12 W 32nd St, Room 603, New York, NY 10001. We are one block from 34th Street station (B, D, F, M, N, Q, R, W trains). Clients from all parts of Queens — Bayside, Flushing, Forest Hills, and beyond — can also be served remotely via video call, phone, and secure document upload.

4.How much does tax preparation cost?

Tax preparation fees depend on the complexity and type of return. Individual returns (Form 1040) vary based on income sources and deductions. Business returns for S-Corps, partnerships, and LLCs are priced separately based on entity type and complexity. We provide a firm, flat-fee quote after a free initial consultation — no hidden charges or surprise bills at pickup.

5.Do you work with businesses or just individuals?

Both. The majority of our clients are businesses — sole proprietors, LLCs, S-Corps, partnerships, and C-Corps. We also prepare individual returns, particularly for business owners, because handling both the business and personal returns at the same firm allows us to identify tax-saving opportunities that cross the business-personal boundary.

6.What tax software do you use?

We use Drake Tax for tax return preparation — the same professional-grade software used by thousands of CPA firms nationwide. For bookkeeping, we primarily use QuickBooks Online, which allows real-time access to your books without file transfers. We can also work with other platforms depending on your existing setup.

7.Can you help with IRS notices or audits?

Yes. If you have received an IRS notice, contact us right away — do not ignore it. Most IRS notices are informational requests or minor discrepancies that can be resolved with a timely, accurate response. As a licensed CPA firm, we are authorized to represent taxpayers before the IRS, meaning we can communicate directly with the IRS on your behalf, respond to audits, and handle correspondence without you needing to speak to the IRS yourself.

8.How do I get started?

Start with a free 15-minute phone call. Call (646) 397-0003 or email info@keonadvisory.com. Briefly describe your situation — whether you need tax prep, bookkeeping, or have a specific question — and we will schedule a consultation at a time that works for you. The initial call is always free.

9.Do you offer virtual or remote services?

Yes. We serve clients across the United States remotely. Tax documents are exchanged through a secure encrypted portal. Consultations are available by phone or video call, and signatures are collected electronically. Many of our clients are in New Jersey, Connecticut, and other states, in addition to clients throughout the New York metro area.

10.What industries do you specialize in?

We specialize in Korean-owned businesses, international tax (FBAR/FATCA reporting), medical and dental practices, real estate investment, e-commerce, restaurants, and trucking/freight. Each industry has its own tax rules, deductions, and reporting requirements — our depth in these sectors means we identify deductions and strategies that a generalist CPA might miss.
